Catapult, the global leader in sports technology, has launched the Perch P2, a next-generation performance solution designed to create a seamless link between an athlete’s preparation and their on-field execution. This release follows Catapult’s strategic acquisition of Perch in 2025 and represents a major leap in the company's mission to provide a 360-degree view of athlete readiness. The Perch P2 is engineered to be a "single source of truth," allowing elite teams to capture high-fidelity performance data wherever an athlete is training whether in a traditional facility, a rehabilitation clinic, or directly on the field.
The hardware features significant technical upgrades, including a 37% wider field of view and a frame rate that is twice as fast as previous iterations. These improvements allow the device to track a broader range of explosive movements and athletic tests with clinical precision. Unlike legacy systems that often struggled in varied lighting, the Perch P2 is designed to operate seamlessly in bright, sunlit conditions, facilitating its use in outdoor training environments. Its compact, highly portable form factor allows it to be mounted on tripods, walls, or floor stands in seconds, ensuring that no session goes unmonitored.
Matt Bairos, Chief Product Officer at Catapult, noted that the Perch P2 is specifically built to "remove the blind spots" in traditional athlete development. By integrating movement quality and power output metrics into Catapult’s broader software ecosystem, coaches can now see exactly how an athlete’s physical foundation is translating to their specific sports movements. This level of integration is intended to streamline high-stakes decision-making, particularly regarding load management and return-to-play protocols, by replacing subjective "gut feel" with hard, objective data.
Beyond performance optimization, the Perch P2 introduces new workflows for sports medicine and athletic training departments. Its ability to quantify movement quality and jump performance makes it a critical tool for assessing fatigue and monitoring rehabilitation progress. Early adopters in the NFL and NCAA have highlighted the device’s embedded LED feedback system as a "game-changer" for athlete motivation, providing instant visual cues during training. As the device rolls out globally in 2026, Catapult aims to solidify its position as the essential operating system for elite sports, connecting every data point in an athlete's journey into one unified platform.
