Newcastle United’s ownership group has committed approximately US$260 million to the acquisition and development of a new training complex, providing another significant long-term investment by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and RB Sports & Media.
The club will purchase the 260-acre Woolsington Hall estate close to Newcastle International Airport. The site includes a listed country house and surrounding parkland and will be developed into a purpose-built training base, subject to planning approval.
Newcastle intends to submit its planning application in 2027, with the men’s first team expected to move into the complex for the 2029/30 season. The plans also retain flexibility to incorporate dedicated facilities for the women’s and girls’ programmes.
The investment arrives after a period of scrutiny around PIF’s commitment to the club. Newcastle has sold several leading players while working within English football’s financial regulations and finished outside the European qualification positions last season. PIF has also been reassessing parts of its wider international sports portfolio.
Training infrastructure provides a different indication of ownership intent from transfer spending. The project creates a permanent operating asset covering performance, recruitment, rehabilitation and player development, with a delivery timetable extending beyond the next competitive cycle.
The purchase remains conditional on planning permission, and the club has not published a detailed construction budget or final design. The commitment nevertheless represents one of Newcastle’s most substantial infrastructure projects since the Saudi-led acquisition in 2021.
