Sportable expands into college football

Sportable’s sensor-equipped ball technology is starting to make its way into college football, bringing a new layer of data into practices and training environments. The system places sensors inside the ball without changing its weight, shape or flight, allowing it to capture information that is difficult to measure consistently through cameras alone. That includes details around speed, spin, trajectory and release, giving coaches and analysts a clearer picture of what is happening on each throw, kick or drill. Early use has come through Wilson and Big Game USA, with LSU and the Indianapolis Colts among those testing the technology in practice settings.
Football already relies heavily on video, GPS and tracking data, but the ball itself has remained a missing part of the picture. Sportable changes that by turning the ball into another source of live information. For quarterbacks, receivers and special teams units, that could mean better insight into execution and repetition. For coaches, it adds another layer to training without changing the feel of the sport itself. Rather than adding technology around football, this puts it directly into the ball and closer to the action.
