Bahrain Olympic Committee and DP World Tour Extend Strategic Partnership to 2036

The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) and the DP World Tour have agreed a long-term extension of their partnership that secures the future of elite professional golf in the Kingdom of Bahrain through at least until 2036. The deal further embeds the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship into the global golf calendar while bolstering Bahrain’s status as a premier sports destination.

The extended collaboration was officially announced on the eve of the 2026 Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship at the Royal Golf Club in Bahrain, where the international field is set to compete for a US $2.75 million prize fund as part of the DP World Tour’s International Swing. Under the renewed agreement, the championship will remain on the DP World Tour schedule in Bahrain through 2036, giving players, sponsors and fans long-term certainty and reinforcing the Kingdom’s role in hosting world-class sporting events.

While the partnership is formally between the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) and the DP World Tour, Bapco Energies acts as the event’s title sponsor under the BOC’s hosting and rights-holder framework. The Olympic Committee oversees the strategic delivery of the championship in Bahrain, with Bapco Energies’ commercial sponsorship supporting the tournament’s branding, prize fund and long-term stability on the DP World Tour calendar.

His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the BOC, described the renewal as a reflection of Bahrain’s organisational capability and growing prominence on the international sporting stage. He highlighted the championship’s platform for competitive excellence and its strategic role in positioning Bahrain as a magnet for elite sport, tourism and business.

Title partner Bapco Energies which elevated its role from presenting partner in 2024 to title sponsor in 2025  will continue its sponsorship through at least 2028, adding stability and support for event growth. The partnership is being leveraged to elevate the tournament’s scope, enhance spectator experience and showcase Bahrain’s commitment to sporting excellence and sustainable practice.

Officials emphasised that sustainability is a central theme of this edition, with environmental initiatives such as solar energy and battery-powered systems reducing the event’s carbon footprint  part of the DP World Tour’s broader Golf for Good programme that targets significant reductions in emissions and waste.

Tom Phillips, Director of Middle East for the DP World Tour, said the extended pact demonstrates a shared vision between the tour and Bahrain’s sporting authorities to deliver world-class competitions, promote innovation and strengthen the Kingdom’s global profile as a hub for high-calibre sport.

The championship,  now into its third edition since the Tour’s return to Bahrain after more than a decade, will feature a mix of seasoned professionals and rising stars from around the world, adding competitive depth and international intrigue.

The long-term agreement between the BOC and the DP World Tour signals a sustained commitment to golf’s growth in the Middle East and underscores Bahrain’s strategic role in hosting globally significant sporting events that blend elite competition, sustainability and cultural engagement.
