Brentford FC have strengthened their ownership base with fresh investment from Prakash Melwani, a senior executive at Blackstone, and Lucian Grainge, chairman and chief executive of Universal Music Group, as the Premier League club continues to attract new capital and strategic expertise.

The two investors have acquired minority stakes in Best Intentions Analytics (BIA), the holding company that owns Brentford and Spanish club Mérida AD. Both Melwani and Grainge will also join the BIA board, bringing experience from the financial services and global entertainment sectors to the club’s ownership structure.

The move forms part of a broader strengthening of Brentford’s investor group, with existing minority shareholders Gary Lubner and filmmaker Matthew Vaughn also increasing their shareholdings in the club’s parent company. Majority ownership remains with Brentford owner Matthew Benham, who has controlled the club since 2012 and remains the driving force behind its strategic direction.

Benham reorganised the club’s ownership structure in 2025 by transferring his shares into Best Intentions Analytics, creating a holding company designed to facilitate new investment and support the club’s long-term development. The structure has since enabled Brentford to bring in additional capital and expand its investor base while maintaining Benham’s majority control.

The latest investment underscores Brentford’s continued rise within the Premier League. Since gaining promotion in 2021, the West London club has developed a reputation as one of the most analytically driven organisations in European football, leveraging data-led recruitment and performance analysis to compete with clubs that operate with significantly larger budgets.

Off the pitch, Brentford have also invested in infrastructure and commercial development following their move to the Gtech Community Stadium in 2020, a venue that has become central to the club’s growth strategy.

The addition of Melwani and Grainge reflects the increasing diversity of investors entering football ownership, with capital now coming from sectors including private equity, entertainment and media. Their appointment is also expected to create opportunities for Brentford to expand its commercial partnerships and global profile through new networks and industry expertise.

For Brentford, the strengthened investor group provides additional resources and experience as the club seeks to consolidate its position in the Premier League and continue its development both on and off the pitch.
