DP World Tour to Reimagine Golf Tournaments with AWS Cloud Partnership

ree

The DP World Tour has inaugurated a new chapter in its technology strategy by appointing Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its official cloud provider, in a deal that promises to reshape how golf tournaments are managed, broadcast, and experienced. With AWS's expansive AI and cloud infrastructure, the Tour plans to unlock new data-driven possibilities for players, media partners, fans, and operational teams.

One of the most transformative elements of the partnership is the deployment of an AI-powered Media Asset Management (MAM) system. By harnessing AWS Media Services, the Tour will automatically tag and categorize vast troves of video footage - identifying players, shot types, and key moments through intelligent metadata. This not only streamlines content production but also makes the archive instantly searchable, paving the way for personalised content experiences.

Fans, meanwhile, will benefit from an advanced second-generation “Virtual Twin” of each golf course. Using over a million data points per event, the system builds a digital replica that combines historical data, live conditions, and predictive analytics. This immersive model can be shown on mobile devices or screens at the venue, letting spectators explore every hole in detail - even from remote spots on the course.

On the operations side, AWS will power a new intelligence platform for the Tour’s logistics and onsite decision making. This “Agentic AI” layer, built using Amazon Bedrock and Quick Suite, will process real-time data from marshal deployment, venue footfall, concession demand, and grandstand occupancy, enabling smarter, more proactive planning.

Sustainability is also a core focus of the partnership. The Tour will launch “Green Drive Live,” a data-driven live emissions dashboard that uses machine learning to forecast, simulate, and optimise resource consumption - from energy and waste to water and logistics—on the fly. Updates will be displayed both in the tournament app and on-site, reinforcing the Tour’s long-term ambition of achieving net-zero carbon by 2040.

Michael Cole, CTO of the DP World Tour, described the collaboration as a pivotal step in realising their “Tournament-As-A-Service” vision - creating globally scalable, intelligent events that combine consistent infrastructure, deep analytics, and a fully data-enabled production model.

This partnership signals a powerful convergence of sport and enterprise cloud technology. By placing AWS at its core, the DP World Tour is not only modernising how tournaments are run, but also building a data-rich, sustainable future that promises more immersive, efficient, and environmentally conscious golf experiences.
