The Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) has officially launched the expanded Golf Sixes League for the 2026 season, marking a significant new chapter in grassroots and developmental golf across the United Arab Emirates. With competitive hubs now established in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the national rollout aims to broaden participation and cultivate the next generation of golf talent through a fun, team-oriented format.
Originally introduced with the support of The R&A and EGF in previous seasons, the Golf Sixes League presents golf in an accessible, dynamic format that blends competitive play with inclusivity. Teams of 14 players rotate groups of six through rounds using a two-ball Texas scramble method across six holes, with the best scores contributing to overall team standings.
Six venues across the UAE - including Trump International Dubai, Emirates Golf Club, The Montgomerie, and Yas Links Golf Club - have embraced the initiative, waiving green fees and supporting league logistics. The top three teams from each pool will earn spots at The Abu Dhabi Challenge in April, adding a compelling competitive incentive to the development-focused series.
The league’s launch reflects broader efforts by UAE golf administrators to strengthen domestic pathways, making the sport more attractive to young players while providing meaningful competitive experience early in their development journeys. Cameron Van Rooyen, EGF’s Director of Instruction, highlighted the league’s role in creating a “fun, inclusive and less intimidating” environment that still rewards competitive spirit and teamwork.
Support from The R&A, through its development programs in the Middle East, Central Asia, and India, further underscores the strategic importance placed on nurturing local talent and broadening the sport’s appeal. Neal Graham, R&A Development Manager for the region, emphasised that Golf Sixes offers players a valuable transition from introductory golf lessons to real competition, deepening engagement and skill development.
As the 2026 season unfolds, the Golf Sixes League is expected to become a cornerstone of the UAE’s golfing calendar, providing both meaningful competitive opportunities and a springboard for future regional and international success.
