Gulf Investors Back Paramount–Warner Bros. Discovery Media Combination

The completion of Paramount’s acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery brings together two major media businesses in a transaction valued at approximately US$110 billion.
The investor group supporting the transaction includes Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Qatar Investment Authority and Abu Dhabi-based L’IMAD, alongside the Ellison family, RedBird Capital Partners and other investors.
For sport, the combination brings CBS Sports and TNT Sports into the same corporate group, creating a major portfolio of live sports rights, production and distribution relationships.
The wider business also includes Paramount+ and HBO Max, opening possibilities for coordinated streaming, advertising and subscription strategies.
The financing package includes US$47 billion of new equity from the wider investor group, while the combined business is targeting at least US$6 billion in annual run-rate synergies within three years.
The transaction closed on 6 October after the required regulatory approvals and closing conditions were satisfied. The combined company is operating under the Skydance name, with its Class B shares trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SKYD.
Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders received approximately US$31.02 in cash per share under the merger agreement. The acquisition follows a competitive process that reshaped ownership across some of the world's largest television, film and streaming businesses.
Sport is an important part of the enlarged company's assets. CBS Sports and TNT Sports have separate portfolios of events and longstanding relationships with leagues, advertisers and distributors. Bringing those operations under common ownership could influence future rights negotiations and cross-platform coverage, although specific integration plans remain to be announced.
The new group also combines entertainment studios, news operations and major streaming brands. Executives must now integrate overlapping businesses while meeting the stated target of at least US$6 billion in annual run-rate synergies within three years.
