Reddit’s Alexis Ohanian Makes £20m Investment in Chelsea FC Women

Chelsea FC Women have announced that tech entrepreneur and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian has become a minority investor, acquiring a 10% stake in the club for £20 million. This significant investment values the Women's Super League (WSL) champions at approximately £200 million and underscores the growing commercial appeal of women's football. 

Ohanian, who is married to Serena Williams, previously co-founded Angel City FC in the US and brings a wealth of experience in promoting women's sports. His involvement with Chelsea FC Women is expected to bolster the club's ambitions both on and off the pitch. Chelsea Women CEO, Aki Mandhar, described the investment as a "landmark day" for the club, highlighting it as validation of their strategy to position the women's team for dedicated growth and investment. 

The club's recent restructuring, which established Chelsea FC Women as an independent entity within the broader Chelsea organisation, was designed to attract targeted investment and provide dedicated resources for the women's team. This move has already yielded positive results, with the team securing their sixth consecutive WSL title and aiming for further success in upcoming competitions. 

Ohanian's investment is anticipated to enhance the club's infrastructure, support player development, and expand its global fanbase, particularly in the United States. His commitment to women's sports, coupled with Chelsea's on-field success, positions the club to capitalise on the increasing interest and investment in women's football worldwide.
