Saudi Arabia's influence on world football grows as FIFA World Cup approaches

With the FIFA World Cup kicking off in North America on 11 June, Saudi Arabia's presence across global football continues to expand. While the Public Investment Fund (PIF) was announced as an Official Tournament Supporter of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in May, the significance of the partnership is becoming clearer as the tournament approaches and preparations accelerate.

The agreement extends beyond traditional sponsorship. Through PIF-backed organisations including Savvy Games Group and Qiddiya City, Saudi Arabia will play a visible role throughout the tournament, supporting fan engagement initiatives and activations across key markets.

The partnership also builds on PIF's existing relationship with FIFA, following its involvement with the FIFA Club World Cup and broader investments across football, esports and entertainment.

As the industry focuses on the largest FIFA World Cup in history, featuring 48 teams across the United States, Canada and Mexico, attention is also beginning to shift towards Saudi Arabia's hosting of the 2034 FIFA World Cup. The Kingdom continues to strengthen its position across multiple layers of the football ecosystem, from club ownership and sponsorship to infrastructure, events and fan experiences.

What started as a series of high-profile investments is increasingly evolving into a long-term football strategy. As the road to 2034 continues, Saudi Arabia is no longer simply participating in global football; it is becoming one of the sport's most influential stakeholders.
