Turki Alalshikh explores Derby County investment

Derby County have held detailed talks with Turki Alalshikh over a potential investment deal, according to multiple UK reports. The discussions are understood to be advanced and linked to a possible purchase or significant investment in the Championship club. Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority and a major force behind Riyadh Season boxing, has been linked with English football before, but Derby is now being presented as the latest club under serious consideration. Current owner David Clowes rescued Derby from administration in 2022 and has stabilised the club, which makes this a very different story from a distressed-asset bailout.
The club has already come through its crisis period and rebuilt credibility under Clowes, so any new capital would be arriving into a more stable operating environment with clearer sporting and infrastructure upside. That changes the nature of the opportunity. It is less about survival and more about what a historic English club might become with fresh backing and a more ambitious growth plan. It also adds another layer to the broader Saudi sports picture. Alalshikh’s influence has already been felt heavily in boxing and entertainment-led sport. If he were to move into English football directly, it would widen that footprint further and bring a new type of Saudi-linked capital story into the EFL. For now, it is still a talks-stage story. But it is substantial enough to watch closely.
