Borussia Dortmund has entered a forward-looking partnership with global technology giant Lenovo, naming it the club’s Official AI Innovation Partner. At the heart of the collaboration is a shared commitment to precision, speed, and data-driven decision-making. Lenovo will provide an extensive suite of AI-ready hardware including high-performance workstations, servers, PCs, and collaboration solutions aimed at enhancing both the sporting and administrative facets of Dortmund’s operations. The technology will be deployed across the club’s headquarters and at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, enabling advanced analytics to support coaching, performance evaluation, scouting, and strategic planning.
Borussia Dortmund’s management highlighted the partnership as a strategic leap in how the club approaches digital transformation. With elite football increasingly reliant on technology for competitive edges, Dortmund’s leadership sees Lenovo as a partner capable of equipping the organisation with the infrastructure necessary to thrive in a data-intensive future. The computing power supplied will also bolster internal processes such as match preparation, player workload monitoring, and business intelligence areas where rapid insights can have meaningful impact.
From Lenovo’s perspective, the partnership places its AI technologies at the cutting edge of real-world sporting application. Mirco Krebs, Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer EMEA, noted that elite sports environments where outcomes can hinge on split-second decisions are natural proving grounds for high-performance computing and AI solutions. By integrating its technology into Dortmund’s ecosystem, Lenovo demonstrates how sophisticated infrastructure can be leveraged beyond being a commercial showcase to delivering actual operational value.
Carsten Cramer, Speaker of Dortmund’s Management Board, emphasised the club’s dual commitment to tradition and innovation. He described the alliance with Lenovo as a manifestation of that philosophy, helping Dortmund build a smarter, more efficient organisation both on and off the pitch.
The move aligns with broader trends in European football, where data analytics and AI are increasingly embedded in competitive and business strategies. From performance modelling to fan engagement platforms, football’s digital transformation is accelerating and Dortmund’s Lenovo partnership positions the club at the forefront of that evolution.
