Genius Sports Rolls Out Semi-Automated Offside Tech Across Brazil's Série A

Genius Sports has expanded its football technology portfolio after the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed it will introduce semi-automated offside technology (SAOT) across the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A from Round 20 of the 2026 season.

The rollout will cover all 20 Série A stadiums, with each venue equipped with 28 to 32 high-performance cameras and five dedicated local servers to capture and process player tracking data in real time. The system is integrated with 10 centralised VAR control rooms in Rio de Janeiro, creating one of the largest national deployments of semi-automated offside technology in world football.

Powered by GeniusIQ, the platform automatically detects potential offside incidents, identifies the relevant players, determines the precise kick point and generates a 3D visualisation for VAR officials within seconds. While the final decision remains with the match officials, the technology significantly reduces the time required to review complex offside situations while improving consistency and accuracy.

The agreement further strengthens Genius Sports' position in elite football technology, extending its capabilities beyond official data collection and betting services into match operations and officiating. As football governing bodies continue to embrace AI-driven technologies, automated decision support systems are becoming an increasingly important part of the modern game.
