Each of the NFL’s 32 clubs committed one million dollars toward the venture through the league’s collective investment vehicle, 32 Equity, authorising it to enter into an agreement with a partner to operate and build the new league. Troy Vincent Sr., the NFL’s executive vice president of football operations, described the move as a pivotal moment in establishing a complete flag football pathway from youth and high school participation through collegiate play and into a professional environment. Flag football participation has surged in recent years, with millions of players worldwide and rapidly expanding adoption across schools and community programmes. League executives believe a professional platform will not only capture this rising interest but also provide a long-term foundation for global fan engagement and talent development.
The approved funding will support the league’s early structural and operational design, including governance, rule development, competition planning and the pursuit of media and commercial partnerships. Rather than operating the league internally, the NFL intends to appoint an external partner with expertise in league management and sports entertainment. Among the candidates under consideration are organisations specialising in modern sports properties and investor groups with deep ties to both traditional and emerging sports landscapes. The NFL’s financial backing gives the selected partner the runway necessary to build a credible competition with scalable commercial potential.
