PTO Invests in Dataworks’ AI Race Technology

ree

The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) has made a strategic investment in Dataworks Technology, an AI-powered platform designed to enhance live performance data into engaging broadcast storytelling. What started as a creative data partnership has now evolved, with Dataworks receiving both strategic funding and an equity stake from the PTO, signalling a transition from a pilot project to a comprehensive deployment.

At its core, the platform analyses real-time data feeds, including metrics such as heart rate, speed and power. It identifies and highlights key moments in the race, such as overtakes, sustained efforts under pressure and pace surges. These insights are transformed into visual narratives that engage viewers, enriching traditional commentary with data-driven excitement.

The platform is versatile, able to handle live, historical and biometric data through a scalable cloud infrastructure. Its design facilitates the seamless deployment of unified graphics across various platforms, including broadcast feeds, second-screen dashboards, social media, fan apps and venue displays.

Initially developed for the T100 Triathlon World Tour, Dataworks now offers a unified visualisation of race dynamics tailored for different screen environments. This ensures that fans, whether at home, online, or in the arena, have access to consistent, real-time visual storytelling, whether watching on TV or checking a race app.

The PTO is not only a user of Dataworks but also a co-innovation partner. This collaboration accelerates the platform's evolution, benefiting both triathlon and potentially other sports. With PTO backing, Dataworks has the resources to develop tools that could become standard across endurance sports and possibly extend into team sports, motorsports and beyond.

For triathlon enthusiasts, this initiative creates a more immersive experience. Instead of receiving sporadic updates, fans will now follow a cohesive story arc driven by real-time statistics, who is pushing forward, who is holding back and who is making a significant move. An example from the Singapore T100 illustrates this, where the platform detected an impending overtake by comparing the heart rates of two athletes. This predictive insight enhances emotional investment and drama, making performance both relatable and thrilling by translating raw numbers into compelling narratives.

Furthermore, this initiative represents a tech-forward extension of the PTO's broader mission to professionalise triathlon through innovation. By providing enhanced storytelling tools, digital experiences and broadcast-level analytics, the PTO deepens fan engagement and positions itself at the forefront of sports technology.
