SailGP has launched RaceScape XR, an innovative mixed-reality app designed specifically for the Apple Vision Pro, offering fans an immersive experience of high-speed sailing. Built on SailGP’s proprietary LiveLine graphics platform, the app combines real-time data, multiple visual feeds and interactive AR features, effectively merging the broadcast experience with live action.
At the heart of the app is AR Tabletop Racing, which allows users to project a live, miniature version of the F50 fleet onto any flat surface. This simulation includes real-time boat positioning, tactical overlays and “ghost boat” competitors, enabling both global tracking and head-to-head strategy in a compact XR format. Fans can also choose from various viewing modes: live footage from on-board cameras, the world feed, or the umpire’s perspective, all within the same immersive interface.
Whether attending the Germany Sail Grand Prix in person or watching from home, users can explore real-time and historical race metrics, easily switching between on-board footage and data displays. The app provides full event replays enhanced with interactive statistics, allowing users to toggle from live video to analytical overlays seamlessly without missing any action.
From a technological standpoint, RaceScape XR represents a significant advance in fan engagement. It transforms traditional viewing into an active, user-driven experience, enabling fans to zoom in on crew dynamics, analyse tactical moves and track performance, all within a mixed-reality environment. This immersive layer deepens both the understanding of and emotional connection to the race.
SailGP’s entry into the XR space exemplifies its commitment to embracing digital innovation at the intersection of sports and emerging technology. By integrating with Apple Vision Pro, the league showcases how premium sports properties can transform into experiential platforms, rather than merely being televised events. This positions SailGP at the forefront of a new wave of sports consumption that prioritises interactivity and immersion alongside athletic performance.
With RaceScape XR, SailGP redefines the narrative of each race: fans no longer watch; they engage with the race, explore tactics and feel the momentum of the fleet. This XR upgrade signals the future of sports broadcasting, one that is technologically rich, contextually immersive and intensely personalised.
