The All Women’s Sports Network (AWSN) has launched a 24-hour women’s sports channel in Saudi Arabia, an important step in elevating the profile of female athletes and expanding access to women’s sporting events both domestically and internationally. The channel, named SSC AWSN, will operate continuously, offering live and recorded competitions featuring women from Saudi Arabia and around the world. This initiative is based on MBC Shahid streaming. It is a collaboration between AWSN, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation and the Saudi Sports Company, indicating substantial institutional support for women’s sports in the Kingdom.

AWSN, co-founded by Whoopi Goldberg, is the first global media network dedicated exclusively to women’s sports. The launch in Saudi Arabia aligns closely with recent reforms in the country that have created greater opportunities for female athletes and spectators. Women now participate in public events, attend stadiums and access sporting platforms more than ever before. The establishment of SSC AWSN enhances this access by providing weekly prime-time broadcasts of Saudi Women’s Premier League matches as well as coverage of international leagues, including UEFA competitions.

For Saudi Arabia, this initiative is part of a broader reform and modernisation effort under Vision 2030, where sport is viewed as a vehicle for social change, economic diversification and cultural openness. The increased global visibility of Saudi women athletes, through televised games, league highlights and international matches, will help cultivate role models, boost youth participation and foster fan bases both within the Kingdom and throughout the region. Media exposure through a dedicated women’s sports channel also presents commercial opportunities, sponsorship potential and new partnerships.

From AWSN’s perspective, operating a 24-hour channel in Saudi Arabia serves as both a testing ground and a showcase. It enables AWSN to create content tailored to local interests, including Arabic commentary, regional women’s leagues and features on Saudi female athletes, while also utilising its global portfolio of women’s sports programming. Being available on Shahid ensures extensive reach among Saudi audiences and the affiliation with established Saudi institutions provides the legitimacy and infrastructure needed for long-term sustainability.

The launch of SSC AWSN in Saudi Arabia is more than just an expansion of media coverage; it signifies a cultural turning point. It establishes a new platform for female athletes, reinforcing that women’s sport is increasingly becoming an integral part of mainstream sports culture and presenting a business opportunity driven by growing audience demand.
