Steph Curry to Power Google’s AI Fitness Ecosystem

ree

NBA superstar Stephen Curry has entered into a wide-ranging partnership with Google that goes far beyond traditional brand endorsements, taking on a hands-on role as a Performance Advisor across Google Health, Google Pixel devices, and Google Cloud. The collaboration aims to combine Curry’s elite sporting insights with Google’s AI and digital innovation, shaping a suite of products that promise to redefine health, fitness, and personal performance for athletes and consumers alike.

Central to the partnership is the development of an AI-driven Health Coach, powered by Google’s Gemini technology and integrated into the Fitbit app and the upcoming Pixel Watch 4. The platform offers personalised workout plans, recovery advice, and sleep optimisation, reflecting Curry’s emphasis on holistic performance management. Curry and his team are testing early versions, helping Google refine how its AI responds to real-world demands such as injury recovery, jet lag, and the intense training cycles faced by athletes.

The partnership also extends across Google’s hardware ecosystem. Curry and his team have transitioned to using Pixel phones, Pixel Watch, and Pixel Buds as their everyday tools, allowing them to stay connected, monitor health metrics, and seamlessly integrate data into training. In perhaps the most eye-catching aspect of the collaboration, Google has also developed an AI-powered basketball coaching tool. Using its Vertex AI and MediaPipe platforms, the system analyses shooting mechanics, provides real-time feedback, and delivers tailored drills to improve accuracy and consistency. Curry has already used the technology during his annual Curry Camp, giving young athletes a glimpse into how AI can accelerate skill development and reinforce sound fundamentals.

Curry is not just a figurehead for the project; he is also integrating these tools into his own training. By leveraging Google Cloud’s data analytics and AI capabilities, he is able to dissect shot quality, refine training methods, and manage his recovery with greater precision. The integration of Gemini-powered productivity tools into his day-to-day life also helps him balance the demands of playing, training, content commitments, and family life more effectively.

For Google, the partnership signals a move toward genuine co-creation with athletes rather than one-way endorsements. By embedding Curry’s insights into product design, the company is positioning its tools as both athlete-tested and consumer-friendly. Curry himself has framed the collaboration as more than just performance enhancement for professionals, noting that the same AI-driven tools can help anyone “maintain a healthier lifestyle and get more done.” In aligning with one of basketball’s greatest players, Google is making a clear bet that the future of health and fitness technology will be shaped at the intersection of elite performance and everyday accessibility.
