Value of AI in Sports Projected to Hit $19.2 billion by 2030

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the global sports industry, with market projections indicating a surge to $19.2 billion by 2030. According to a recent report by Globant, a leader in digital transformation, AI's influence extends across fan engagement, operational efficiencies, and revenue generation, positioning regions like the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as pioneers in integrating AI within the sports ecosystem.

The GCC countries, particularly Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), are at the forefront of combining sports with cutting-edge technology. With investments exceeding $65 billion, the region aims to become a global hub for "Sportainment"—the intersection of sports and entertainment. AI is anticipated to drive $8.5 billion in value to the GCC’s media and entertainment sectors by 2030, underscoring the region’s readiness to leverage technological advancements.

The young, tech-savvy population in the GCC is a key driver behind this transformation. Federico Pienovi, Globant's Chief Business Officer & CEO for APAC & MENA, noted, “With 77% of Gen Z and 75% of Millennials seeking sports experiences beyond traditional formats, AI is not just an option—it’s a necessity.” AI-powered solutions, such as personalized fan interactions and real-time analytics, are revolutionizing how sports are consumed in the region.

In the UAE, where 89% of residents actively follow sports, AI is enhancing experiences through smart stadiums equipped with real-time data displays, interactive content, and predictive analytics. These innovations enable fans to connect with the game on a deeper level, creating highly personalized experiences. Globally, personalized AI-driven interactions generate four to seven times more revenue than conventional fan engagement strategies.

Additionally, AI is bridging gaps in traditional fan access, enabling virtual reality experiences, real-time engagement via social media, and even tailored content delivery based on viewing habits. This personalized approach aligns with the GCC's broader digital transformation goals, setting a standard for other regions to follow.

Despite its potential, AI adoption in sports is not without hurdles. Data management complexity and a shortage of specialized talent pose significant barriers. Globally, 59% of sports organizations report the absence of a cohesive generative AI strategy. However, the GCC’s robust investments in infrastructure and education present an opportunity to overcome these challenges and lead in AI integration.

As AI continues to redefine Sportainment, the GCC stands poised to capitalize on this transformation. By integrating advanced AI capabilities into their sports ecosystems, GCC nations are not only enhancing fan experiences but also attracting international partnerships and bolstering economic growth. This forward-looking approach ensures that the region remains a pivotal player in the global sports and entertainment landscape.
