Spectrum SportsNet and Apple have partnered to bring live Los Angeles Lakers games to fans via the Apple Vision Pro, in a significant move for spatial computing in sports broadcasting. Starting in January 2026, six Lakers games will be made available in the Apple Immersive video format. This initiative represents the first time live sporting events have been produced specifically for the platform’s immersive viewing experience, which aims to simulate the intensity and perspective of sitting courtside.
The immersive broadcasts are distinct from standard 2D or multiview feeds, utilizing specialty cameras from Blackmagic Design to capture high resolution, 180 degree 3D video. The experience will be further enhanced by spatial audio and a dedicated broadcast team featuring play by play commentator Mark Rogondino and former NBA player Danny Green. Fans in the Lakers’ local broadcast territory who have a Spectrum subscription will be able to access these live feeds through the Spectrum SportsNet or NBA apps on the Vision Pro. For those outside the local market, game replays will be made available shortly after the live event.
This move signals a strategic shift for Apple, which has previously limited its immersive sports content to documentary style recaps and short highlights from the MLS Cup and NBA All-Star weekend. By introducing live game action, Apple and Spectrum are testing the appetite for premium, hardware specific viewing experiences that traditional television cannot replicate. The scheduled games, which include high profile matchups against the Bucks, 76ers, and Clippers, will serve as a pilot for how spatial computing might eventually transform the home viewing experience. For the Lakers and Spectrum, the partnership offers a way to engage tech forward fans and explore new revenue models in a changing media environment.
