Google and LA28 Power the Future of the Olympics

ree

Google has been named the official cloud provider and a founding partner for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games (LA28), extending its collaborations with Team USA and NBCUniversal to include AI infrastructure and advanced search features. The agreement spans across event operations, broadcast integration, and fan engagement, making Google central to the technological fabric of the Games.

Under the deal, Google’s Gemini AI and its “AI Mode” within Search will interoperate with NBCUniversal’s multi-platform coverage to help fans surface dynamic insights, go deeper with content, and navigate venues in real time. At the same time, Google Cloud will underpin LA28’s backend systems, enabling advanced analytics for athlete training, workflow coordination, and broadcast data management across millions of users and tens of thousands of personnel.

This move highlights how major sports events are increasingly technology-led. The integration of AI, search and cloud elevates fan interactivity and operational resilience - turning what was once a seasonal spectacle into a data-rich, always-on experience. For broadcasters and rights holders, the partnership deepens the convergence of content and computation: real-time insights, personalized content delivery, and audience analysis become baked into elite sports.

Moreover, Google’s LA28 sponsorship alongside brands like Honda, Starbucks and Comcast provides a commercial foundation beyond technology. The partnership allows the Olympics to appeal not only to fans and athletes, but to enterprises and developers who might build on the infrastructure for future sporting events or vertical extensions of the Games.

In the eyes of partners, this deal sets a new bar. The next time a major multi-sport event launches, stakeholders will expect not just broadcast rights or venue infrastructure - but digital platforms, cloud scale, AI overlays, and cross-device accessibility from day one. For technology investors and sports operators alike, LA28 is becoming a blueprint for how modern events will be built, monetized, consumed, and measured.
