Texas Tech University has agreed a landmark 15-year, US$75 million strategic partnership with digital infrastructure company Galaxy, marking one of the largest technology partnerships in US college athletics. The agreement extends well beyond traditional sponsorship, positioning Galaxy as a long-term technology partner supporting artificial intelligence research, digital infrastructure, student development and fan engagement across the university.
The partnership will see Galaxy become the Official Data Centre Partner and Official Digital Assets Partner of Texas Tech Athletics, while also supporting the university's wider ambitions in AI research and workforce development. The investment includes funding for academic programmes, research initiatives and student opportunities, reflecting the growing convergence between higher education, elite sport and emerging technologies.
A significant element of the agreement centres on Name, Image and Likeness (NIL), with Galaxy creating internship programmes and career pathways that connect student-athletes with the fast-growing digital infrastructure and AI sectors. The partnership also includes collaboration on technology innovation, data analytics and fan engagement initiatives, demonstrating how commercial partnerships in college sport are increasingly extending beyond branding rights into long-term strategic collaboration.
The deal reflects the rapidly changing commercial landscape of US college athletics, where universities are competing for investment, talent and new revenue streams following the introduction of NIL legislation. Rather than focusing solely on traditional sponsorship assets, institutions are seeking partners capable of contributing expertise, research, technology and employment opportunities alongside financial investment.
